1. Privilege, Power, and Differences! #1

In the book Privilege, Power, and Differences written by Johnson he brings to light that there are so many injustices and problems in our society. He explains the issues at hand, come from differences. Weather it is different race, gender, sexuality, etc. The differences lead to power and privilege to a certain group. This has been set in place from our very own history. As he explores the issues his main argument is that we can all become a part of that solution if we did our part in being opened minded. He states, "Allows us to see not only where the trouble comes from, but how we as individuals are connected to it, which is the only thing that gives us potential to make a difference." this quote expresses his intentions to not talk about the past, but to look to our future in what we can do. One of the biggest points in we can do is truly reflect and think about our personal privilege. There are an exercise Johnson leaves for us to do. The diversity wheel is there for us ...

All About Me

Image
My name is Nancy Martinez. I am Mexican American. I come from a big family that I am close with. I have five siblings. My older brother is a United States Marine. My sister is in college with me right now to be a nurse. Then I have three younger siblings. One is in high school. One is in middle school, and my youngest brother is in elementary school. I love them all dearly. I am a waitress at a Mexican restaurant in Pawtucket. I have been in the restaurant industry for about three years. First as a hostess and then I became a waitress. A hobby I enjoy is hiking. I have been to a couple of very memorable hiking spots. Some in New Hampshire I even hiked the Grand Canyon for five days and I had so much fun. In school I am majoring in Early Education. I want to become a teacher because I believe kids are the most impressionable and need the most help and attention. I am excited to be in college and look forward to all I learn... :)
